Welcome to The Strawberry Field Pancake Cottage
Our Pancake Cottage is over 200 years old and has been run by Peter & Margaret Kerssens since 1997 and was passed down to their daughters, Yosta and Mayra in 2021.
The old dormer cottage was originally a family farmhouse, located on a sidetrack on the famous Ring of Kerry overlooking Slievaduff Valley. The area is a favourite with both tourists and locals alike.
Peter & Margaret turned the cottage into a little café/restaurant creating the space themselves as they have a great love for cooking and creating things. Keeping the traditional Irish cottage-style which makes it a cosy and homely restaurant, with a welcoming wood burning stove but with modern facilities.
We do Dutch-style pancakes both Savoury & Sweet, freshly prepared to order. Using our own ideas and recipes, with an artistic flair, you can be sure that you are getting something very special on your plate. We have gluten-free and vegan pancakes.
We also have a good selection of Beverages. We have organic wines from local supplier Mary Pawle and local beer from Tom Crean’s Brewery in Kenmare. We have a distinctive Coffee Menu, iced mocha included. Our coffee is an Italian brand, Giuljano. What else is on the menu? Our home-made soup is always vegetable based, suitable for vegetarians and vegans. We have our traditional homemade Dutch Apple-pie with cream or ice-cream from Kenmare ice-cream and also home-baked scones.
Please call, you will not be disappointed. We also have a very nice outdoor seating area, with lovely valley views.
Dogs are welcome to our outdoor seating once on a leash.
The cottage has its own well, so there is no chloride in the water system, just pure natural filtered spring water. This adds to the delicious taste of our coffees and teas.
The little art & craft shop is another aspect of “The Strawberry Field”. We have our own-designed cast-iron collection of Celtic teapots, trivets and tealight holders. The crafts are all by local artists. Please have a look around and find that special gift and souvenir.

Our Pancakes
All of the pancakes at “The Strawberry Field” are freshly made to order. Yosta has her own pancake recipe, that has been passed down through generations, using the basic ingredients like eggs, flour and milk.
Also, there are plenty of options for special dietary requirements. Egg free, gluten free, dairy free, you name it! These batters are also prepared to order so just let the waiting staff know and they’d be more than happy to accommodate you.
Great attention is paid to the freshness of the pancake toppings, everything is assembled at the time the pancake is cooked and are decorated with the most beautiful ingredients.

On The Menu
Along with Pancakes there is also Dutch apple-pie available, which is home-baked using a traditional recipe from Holland using cinnamon and sugar. There are homemade scones as well, deliciously served with jam, butter and freshly whipped cream.
But why not start with a lovely homemade soup of the day which is always vegetable based and suitable for vegans and vegetarians. The soup of the day is served with freshly baked artisan local bread, from “Harringtons” Kenmare. There is also gluten free bread available on request.

In our shop you will find various gifts from hand-made jewellery to cast-iron teapots. Inside the restaurant you will find a lot of Margaret’s paintings. A selection of Margaret’s paintings have been printed on canvas and are for sale. All profits will be donated to the Kerry Palliative Care Unit.
